If you’re like me, you welcome each year with open arms.  January 1st has that effect.  No matter where you are and what you are doing in life, January 1st makes you stop and reflect.  It makes you feel like you are given another chance to refresh.  It creates a marker in time, a point, where you can look back and look ahead.  I rang in the new year with loved ones and had the honor of performing the countdown with one of my best friends, Sam Sparro.  We were invited to guest DJ in West Hollywood for a new party called Rasputin (a love child of Mr. Black).  Earlier that evening, I proposed Black Box at the stroke of midnight, and without a blink, Sam agreed.  We rang in the new year with the sounds of funk, disco, house and indie electro … the feel-good was contagious.  I’m happy to announce that you will be hearing a little more from me and Sam in the new year. I recently collaborated with LA-based producer, Small Pyramids, to remix Sam’s upcoming (first) single from his new album,  Return to Paradise.  The track is entitled Happiness and will soon start rotations on air at KRCW 89.9.

I met Small Pyramids, whose name is Zachary Hunsaker, last year through musical channels we formed, being mutual fans of one another.  I’d come to love his deep house, spacey, funk groove jams and he followed my dj nights in LA.  Zach has received most of his acclaim for his single, I Want Blood (Glasgow Underground). The song was officially released with 2 remixes by Goldroom and Cosmic Kids last September. The song rose to #40 for DJ Mag’s top singles of 2011 and also was a feature on Beatport. Overtime we started meeting outside of our work sessions and recording sessions to have a drink and talk about ideas.  We became nightlife partners, following the best lineups and nightclubs in LA. Following our first collaboration on Happiness, we knew we would not let 2012 pass by without releasing a body of work together. Currently we are working in the studio writing new songs and have already started recording several tracks. I’m excited to premiere our new material. In the meantime, take a moment to get acquainted with my friend, Small Pyramids.

2012 has gotten off to a wonderful start, with Happiness on the way and Other I (Saint Le Roq) already in rotation.  Saint Le Roq is also completing our first EP with a music video for Other I currently in post-production.  Anna and I are slated to return to NYC next month to host another Booby Trap! and poke around Fashion Week while we’re in the city.  There is much to look forward to this year and I thank all of you for the love and support.  Wishing you all happiness and love in the new year … Love, Kim Anh

Other I came from an array of influences spanning decades as far back as the late 80s and early 90s.  Influenced by classic house, r&b and a touch of the techy side, we wrote and produced a dark and moody, yet soulful sound.  Other I, for me, was always meant to be a feeling; an understanding you feel when you hear the track.
